Yucca
Yucca filamentosa / flaccida
Chosen as the cleanest zero-maintenance clumps that read as grass, grow large enough to backdrop the whole garden, and grow well here. Kept well away from the water and surrounded by lavender so they never sit waterlogged.
Red tussock grass
Chionochloa rubra
Coppery, hair-fine fountains that are bronze on purpose — living colour all winter, never cut down, and a clean tuft a weeding tool can circle.
English lavender
Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'
Silver foliage year-round and violet bloom through summer, sited on the driest strip in the garden. The scent earns its place along the fence walk.
Black-eyed Susan
Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm'
Already thriving in this garden — we’re keeping every clump and adding more. Unbroken gold from June to October: the main colour.
Hosta, white-margined
Hosta 'Patriot' / 'Francee' type
One of the garden’s existing hostas — staying put, with more added. The white margins read as light from across the garden and carry the silver accent.
Hosta, blue & green
Hosta 'Halcyon' + established clumps
The smaller hosta already growing here — keeping it and adding more. Thick, slug-resistant blue-green paddles for cool foliage weight at the water’s edge.
Autumn Joy sedum
Hylotelephium 'Herbstfreude'
Already here and staying — the established clump keeps its spot and gains company. Cream-green August domes blush pink then rust; bees on every head, one cut a year.
Coral bells
Heuchera 'Obsidian' / 'Palace Purple'
Ruffled burgundy mounds — the second accent colour, evergreen through a North Vancouver winter, tidy enough to weed around one-handed.
Living carpet
Sagina subulata + Isotoma fluviatilis
Irish moss and blue star creeper knitted into a living floor — it seals the ground against weeds and stars the stream edges blue.
